Yesterday and Today
This year, IBAK is proud to celebrate the company's 75th anniversary. When Helmut Hunger went into business with his firm 'Ingenieurbüro Atlas Kiel' in 1945, he laid the foundation for a company that operates worldwide. As a manufacturer and supplier of sewer inspection and rehabilitation systems IBAK now employs a staff of over 380 at six locations in Germany and at its office in Australia. In addition, the Kiel-based owner-managed family business is represented by more than 40 sales agencies and service partners all over the world.
High Tech Under the Ground
Sewers and pipes are subject to ageing: they can form cracks and start leaking, and this leads to groundwater and soil pollution. With the technology developed by IBAK, sewers and pipes can be travelled through in order to optically assess the condition of sewage systems and to rehabilitate them if required. The IBAK company founder Helmut Hunger presented the first sewer inspection system in the world in 1957. Building up on this pioneer work, IBAK is still the technology leader after 75 years. Nowadays, fully equipped sewer inspection vans form the company's core business, but small, portable systems for mobile operation and software are also part of the comprehensive product portfolio of the pioneer of the industry.
Innovation with Artificial Intelligence
With its newly developed products, IBAK has its finger still as ever on the pulse of time: 4K, artificial intelligence (AI) and boundless mobility are the great possibilities that the inventor of sewer TV inspection technology is opening up to the sewer industry. Among other things, IBAK is working on the PANORAMO ArtIST software, with the aim of increasing the efficiency of inspection data capture and ensuring data analysis of a constantly high quality. The artificial intelligence (AI) of the software which is to assist with establishing the condition of standard occurrences presents great potential.
The Third Generation in the Management
In its 75th anniversary year, IBAK has its sights firmly set on the future and has initiated the change of generations in the management: with effect from January 2020, Daniel Hunger and Dorian Hunger have become managing directors of the company alongside their father Dr. Werner Hunger. Thus, the continuity of management by members of the founder's family has been further ensured. With the new triumvirate of directors, IBAK is embarking on its anniversary year oriented towards the future and at the same time remaining true to its roots as the oldest and biggest company in the industry.
